Breath of Fire: RM2k Walkthrough
I will try to refrain from spoilers and just deliver the barest of walkthroughs as much as I can. This is a walkthrough telling you where to go, how to solve the basic puzzles, and where to get items. It is not going to give you any info on strategic ways to kill bosses.
Pandora Town ------
This is your starting point. Don't leave right away, as there are some items to pick up, and experience to gain. To start, there is a wooden treehouse north of your home, kick the barrel out of the way to enter and gain a shield.
You can then head over to the river to the west, talk to the soldier in the house and you'll be allowed to enter the slime-infested area. Kill all the slimes and talk to this guy again to win a prize.
You can go back to your house to sleep if you need healed, try not to use any potions.
Now you can leave the village once you have some herbs and/or potions.
Heading towards the Dragon Temple------
On the worldmap, head east, into the caves.
There's nothing in the caves except slimes and a treasure chest, so once you have the chest head to the east exit. You can then wander off to the Dragon Temples frontgate. There are two switches here, and you will need to switch them both to make the ladder appear to let you in. Don't hit the switch that is in between two waterfalls, just the two near the bottom of the screen at either side. Follow the linear path till you finally reach the Dragon Temple itself. Speak to the Dragon King in the centre room, and then head into the room between the two giant statues.
To the lands of the west-----
Grab the warp stone on your way to the western continent.
Head to the first town you can see. Head to the building north of the entrance at the end of the path. A busy man is here, offer to help him out. The storehouse is the house to the west of his, go there and get the book and return it to him.
You can now head north to the town that doesn't look too bad, but has apparently been terrorised by a Red Dragon. Once you have all you need, (there are some herbs you can steal in the inn) head north to the cave.
Red Dragon Cave----
Really showing how amateurish this game is, the level is quite simple and linear...
Head north first of all, and up the ladder. You'll get a life seed. This ups your maxHP, so you may as well use it right away. Go back down, up the stairs, up again, fight dragon. Smallest dungeon ever!!!
To wyndia! ----
Return to either village, and Nina will be there... she should only be in the south one, but as you probably could tell by now, this game has several flaws. Agree to do a favour for her, and she'll go with you to Wyndia. The tunnel to Wyndia is at the southest point of this continent.
In the cave, you can get a wisdom fruit on one little sub-platform, and there is a switch on the next one that will open a door a little further on so don't miss that.
When you leave the caves, you can head east to Wyndia. If it's night, you'll just have to wait for sunrise.
Wyndia ---
There is no inn here, but a Knight in the barracks in the western part of the castle will let you use his bed.
In the NorthWestern part, you will find a strange room with a portal in it, if you enter here, you will activate a shortcut so that you can come back here any time by using the warp stone. There's also a store room in this corner with some potions.
Up the centre stairways, you will be able to talk to the King, and get permission to see the Red Dragon. If you talk to the king after the cut scene you will get a choice of responses, it is fairly obvious what choices to make to get a good impression, just don't say the stupid options unless you saved recently, as it's instant game over if the king hates you :P
There is a chest in the kings bedroom you can steal from. Where does Nina sleep? Wow, this castle is poorly designed eh? lololol
Cave of the Red Dragon----
Enter the cave, and talk to the fiery statue. It will teleport you to the cave system.
Don't step on ther fiery rock, it will burn you. Head up the bridge and speak to the Red Dragon, he has a challenge for you.
The cave in the topright of the next room has a red chest in it with a herb. The door in the south is the one that will take you forward. Simple linear path until you reach a Dragon statue and a save point. Go east first.
At the end of this path there is an overhead rafter thing... there is a secret bridge under this leading to the rock formation on the east. There is a switch here. Now head back to the center, save if you like and then head down the west path. At the crossroads you must head south to find the next switch, a bridge will appear at the north of the cave - head through it.
If you go north you will face a boss, if you head east on the bridge, you will find a chest with a potion in it.
Defeat the Fire Guard at the top of the bridge, touch the crystal and then have a quick chat with the Red Dragon. He will tell you where to go next.
Blue Dragon ----
Once you're prepared with items and such, head east til you find a tower. You can also visit a small fort in the hills between Wyndia and the tower, but there is little here for now. The tower is pretty linear and simple, just climb to the top, then ride the waterfalls back down again (by talking to dragon statue). There are a couple chests to pick up on the way, but they're not hidden at all. There's no boss, and once you speak to the Blue Dragon you'll get a nice method of sea transport.
Dragon of Wind----
Northeast of the first village you came to after the Dragon Temple, there is a little town complaining that all the miners have disapeared. A man in a library will tell you that the Wind Dragon needs a tribute... but that is for later. North of the town is a cave, enter here wander down the boring paths, there's only one detour you can take, and it just leads to a room with a flaming barrier. Continue along, back to the world map, along, down ladder. You can get a gauntlet at the northeast of this room. Nothing else here, so you can continue along the linear path until you reach a room with some miners locked up.
Northwest is a save point, northeast is the way forward boss fight time! D:
When the cave collapses, there is no way to escape... unless you have a warp stone of course.
Mining Town 2----
There is a small island south of Wyndia with a small mining town on it. You can find 250 zenny in some guys basement, if you come at night, an old lady in the inn will ask you to deliver a letter (way back in the first town after Dragon Temple) do so, return to her, and you'll get some money... you'll need a lot of money to get that emerald you are after.
There is more moeny in the mines, if you complete the badly coded game.
Basically there are four guys who will tell you fi their switch is on/off. The one with the first name alphabetically is the leftmost switch... failing that, i'll just give you the answer.
The switches are in the topright corner of the room, the miners are scattered around.
If you want the solution one is up, two is down, three is down and four is up. Behind the door, much money for purposes of buying that emerald and any other shiny items you may desire!
Wind Dragon----
Bring the emerald to the island northeast of the water dragons lil tower...
Playing the game has reminded me why I hate RPGmakers battle system...
Anyway, much wandering along continent until you reach a cave between two waterfalls. There's a little fight in here, so be prepared.
Once the fight is over, you can go talk to the Wind Dragon who will show you the most crappily coded bit of clairvoyance ever, before extinguishing the barrier near Wyndia.
Earth Dragon----
Now... the earth dragon is on a little island just north of the water dragon. The little village has some BOF characters that I hate, and a life seed and a shop. Aint that something...
Anyway, the earth dragon cave is east of the town. Go in there. It's pretty linear until a little fight scene on a bridge (you have to step on the southmost point of the bridge). You'll find a dragon statue in front of a door, go in there and you'll get another shortcut activated. But you need to return to the mines for now (unless you need supplies or something)
The first door you come across back in the caves is blocked by magic-fire. So keep heading south, you'll stumble on a magic symbol that will teleport you further down into the core of the earth. Super.
Continue south.
Eventually you will reach the Earth Dragon. This bit requires timing, as you need to flick switch right when the demon enters the magic symbol.
The Dragon will advise you to use the warp stone once the demon is taken care of, do so and all shall be well! Head to the Dragon Temple and have a chat with the first dragon.
Tiark's Quest----
This isn't necessary. But if you want Tiarrk to be as strong as he can be for the upcoming final level, you will need to find the demons and put them back in him. The little house in between the first two villages is the psychic that the elder dragon speaks of. You can go to her for advice on where thinsg are... as the Elder advises, don't bother trying to reach the North or South dragons.
If you don't want to bother with the psychic:
First one is under the Dragon Temple. In the tunnel that first led you to the Dragon Temple from Pandora Town.
The second is east of Wyndia, in a cave only accesible by a small bit of water seperated from the ocean.
Third one is in the mines that Prillix destroyed. He's right at the entrance, so don't worry about having to go deep in there.
Fourth is in the Fire Dragons cave. Where there was those two switches you had to find.
Fifth is in the gate, northeast of Wyndia where once there was a fire barrier. Fives your lot.
Heading back to Pandora----
Back to the gate northeast of Wyndia, where the barrier was, you can now proceed up this way. There's a big rock blocking the path, so detour through that conveniently placed cave. There is a small town ahead called Toppos. This is your last little town before the boss dungeon (but not your last chance to stock up) so presumably it has the best weapons... once equipped head west till you reach Pandora. Fun times...
The town of Pandora is deserted, so just head into the caves that were previously blocked. It's pretty straight forward dungeon, there's one bit involving a switch and a door... simple stuff.
Eventually you'll find a save point, which can mean only one thing: boss fight!
The final battle----
OK, so now you can fly. This means finally you can meet the North and South dragons... they are located in two big towers, accessible only via the flying dragon form.
One is just west of Pandora. Enter it at night time to achieve power.
The other is just south of that little mining town where you got the emerald. Enter it during the day.
You can also get a very powerful sword in a cave in the middle of the ocean, if you have not already done so.
Once prepared, you can enter the tower. In the south west you will find the miners and denizens of Pandora being held prisoner. But you can't do anything for them at the moment.
North door is the way to go. You'll come across a room with three doors, go in the southwest one first hit switch then go in the northeast.
Then it isn't very far to the boss fight. Redgeill.
Kill him. game over. Hooray!
